Eagle Scouts Honored with Unique Civil War Heritage Recognition

Ryan and Ethan Jovet-Ocasio—brothers who both earned their Eagle Scout Rank in Narcoossee District—were honored at their recent Eagle Court of Honor with a special presentation from the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW). The recognition included the SUVCW Eagle Scout Certificate, an official Letter of Commendation, the SUVCW Eagle Scout Merit Badge, and an invitation to become “Friends” of the Department of Florida SUVCW. The presentation connected their accomplishments to a broader tradition of service, leadership, citizenship, and patriotism. It was a meaningful reminder that the values demonstrated by Eagle Scouts today continue a legacy of dedication and commitment that has helped shape our nation’s history. Congratulations to Ethan and Ryan on earning the rank of Eagle Scout and on receiving this distinguished honor.

Fun and Fellowship at Narcoossee District’s

Scouts BSA Spring Camporee!

District Scouts and Scouters from 7 units had a great time at Narcoossee District’s Alien-themed Spring Camporee at Camp La-No-Che. Event highlights included an epic Capture the Alien game and shooting time at the rifle range. Scouts also enjoyed socializing and building friendships with Scouts from other units during the cracker barrel and dessert sharing. BIG THANKS to Troop 192 for planning and hosting our district’s Spring Camporee. 

Mandatory Training Reminder

Scouting America has phased out YPT training and replaced it with Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT). All legacy YPT training expired on May 31, 2026. At this time, all leaders in the Scouting program must have current SYT training to participate as a leader in Scouting activities. So if your unit has leaders who have not yet taken SYT, they need to do so immediately to continue participation as a leader.

One change with the new training is that SYT must be renewed annually. The refresher training only takes 20 minutes as long as you don’t let it lapse for more than a week. If you do let it lapse for more than a week, you must retake the full 90 minute training.

Also, all close contact leaders (Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Cub Master, Assistant Cub Master, Den Leaders, and Assistant Den Leaders) must take Hazardous Weather Training every 2 years to be considered a ‘trained leader’. Units are required to have at least 1 registered adult leader at all outdoor activities with their hazardous weather training current.

Scouting America 250th Anniversary Challenge

As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Scouting America is inviting Scouts and families to take part in the Scouting America 250 Challenge.

From March 2026 through February 2027, Scouts across all programs can explore what citizenship, community, and freedom look like today. This limited-time challenge blends learning, creativity, service, and reflection, all leading up to July 4, 2026. Participants can also earn a special collectible Liberty in Action America 250 Challenge patch created just for this historic milestone. See challenge patch requirements here.

Additionally, every unit is encouraged to complete 250 hours of community service in 2026.  Every hour matters. Every act strengthens a community. Every service project builds character.

Narcoossee District Committee Meeting

June 11

The Narcoossee District Committee will be meeting virtually on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 7:00pm.

Narcoossee District Roundtable

June 18

All adult leaders and scout parents interested in getting more involved in Scouting are invited to attend the Narcoossee District Roundtable, which is typically be held on the third Thursday of every month at Center Point Community Church (9580 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825). Doors open for gathering at 6:30pm, and opening flag is at 7pm. Roundtable is a great way for Scout leaders to share ideas, network and get information about our Council and District. Ideally, every unit should try to have at least one leader attend every month so that you can take what you learn to your Units!

This month’s June Roundtable will be held on Thursday 6/18/26. Program breakout groups will be offered for Cub Scout leaders and Scouts BSA/Venturing leaders.

Cub Scout Summer Day Camp

Hosted by Narcoossee District

July 6-10

Registration is now open for Summer 2026 Cub Scout Day Camp! This summer, Cub Scouts who are entering 1st–5th grade in the 2026/27 school year are invited to a day camp experience in DinoTopia, a world where dinosaurs and brave explorers team up for the coolest adventures ever! Campers will enjoy epic games, crafts, range and target activities, and complete 3 elective adventures from the cub scout program.

Narcoossee District is hosting Session 6B of Cub Scout Day Camp on July 6-10 at Center Pointe Community Church. Additional sessions on different dates are being held throughout the Central Florida Council.

Looking Ahead to Fall…

Narcoossee District will be hosting an adult training weekend at Moss Park on October 3-4, 2026. Please get this date on your unit calendar and socialize to your unit leaders now! Courses to be offered in parallel include:

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO): Designed for Cub Leaders. Cub units are required to have two BALOO-trained leaders present at any unit-led pack overnight.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS): Required training for Scouts BSA Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. Recommended for Cubmasters and Webelos/AOL den leaders.

TRAINING – ADVANCEMENT – FUNDRAISING

Your Training Update!

Please pass the word to all parents and volunteers that our scouts deserve trained leaders. As unit leaders, imagine a pack, troop, crew, or ship with 100% trained leaders!

Online Training Opportunities. Here is how to get caught up with online training
• Take the online course for your registered position via https://my.scouting.org/. Remember that if you change positions, you need to register for the new role and take the training for that role to be considered “TRAINED.” Visit my.scouting.org for all your online training needs!
• Every leader must be current with the new Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) by May 31, 2026 when YPT is officially phased out. SYT must be renewed every year. A 20-minute refresher SYT course is available for persons who already completed the 90-minute SYT course and renew their training before expiration. The 20-minute refresher option goes away if SYT is expired for more than 1-week, and the 90-minute course must be repeated. Don’t let it expire!

In-Person Training Opportunities. Trainings offered via online courses are also sometimes offered as in-person trainings. There are other courses (e.g., BALOO, IOLS, etc.) that are ONLY offered in-person. You may attend trainings hosted by Narcoossee District or any of the other Districts in the Central Florida Council. Training opportunities within Central Florida Council available in the next few months are listed below. Visit the Council Training Calendar to see all the training opportunities available within our Council. When you visit the calendar website, click ‘Apply Filter’ and check the box for ‘Training’.

Advancement Reminders for Life Scouts

Dan Morrison and Theresa Martinez are leading the Narcoossee District Eagle Advancement Team. You can submit proposals and general Eagle advancement inquiries to [email protected].

Please note the following information for Life scouts working on their Eagle Rank:

1. The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook was last updated in February 2023. Please make sure you are using the 2023A version when you submit your workbook for district review. The 2023A version of the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook PDF can be downloaded from the National website at:
https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/eagle-scout-workbook/

2. Within the Project Proposal, the District Information requested on Page B should be entered as: Narcoossee Eagle Chair; (407) 889-4403; 1951 S Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL 32703; [email protected]

3. Life scouts who are ready for their Eagle Project Workbook review and District approvals have the option of personally meeting with a District Advancement team member by appointment. The Life Scout can still opt to submit and receive feedback electronically, if preferred. But in some cases, a short in-person meeting will still be needed for signatures. Electronic proposal submissions should be sent to [email protected]

4. Dr. Phillips Charities has established a matching grant fund at the Central Florida Council to which Eagle Scout candidates may apply for partial assistance to fund their Eagle Scout Service project. Only projects located in Orange, Osceola & Seminole counties will be considered for approval. 5. The Council has a new online tool for Eagle Rank Applications, which eliminates the need to mail paperwork until after the BOR is completed and provides support for completing the application and real-time tracking of status.  The tool and instructions for use are available at http://eagleapp.cflscouting.org/

6. To schedule an Eagle Board of Review (EBOR) with the district, a unit representative or the Eagle Candidate should send a request to the district advancement team at [email protected]. The request should identify possible available dates for the EBOR, and if known, provide a location and preferred time. A Scout may make this request, but must have coordinated with and cc their Unit Advancement Chair when doing so. When requesting, please allow for enough time to obtain reference letters, and provide multiple dates to aid in ease of scheduling.
