Scouting for Food 2025

We hope everyone’s Scouting for Food bag distribution went smoothly yesterday. Next Saturday 11/8 is food collection! Please wait until after 9am to begin collecting the bags in your unit’s assigned territory. If possible, we encourage you to publicize the bag collection on social media (Facebook, Next Door, etc.) with a reminder to have the donations set out in a visible location prior to 9am Saturday.

Food donation collection sites will be open for drop-offs from 9:00am—1:30pm at the following locations on 11/8:

South Narcoossee Collection Site in Osceola County (*NEW this year*)
5750 Nova Rd, Saint Cloud
Site coordinators: Arthur Polnasek 321-689-7447 and Greg Filak 703-963-6394

North Narcoossee Collection Site: STU Import/Export (*aka The Popcorn Warehouse *) 5105 Patch Rd., Orlando 32822
Site coordinator: Sonia Tzabery 954-610-3669

Second Harvest Food Bank
411 Mercy Drive; Orlando, FL 32805

Please try to drop off at one of the Narcoossee Collection sites, as we will not have a district representative stationed at Second Harvest to record your number of bags. If you find it necessary to drop off at Second Harvest, please text/email SFF Chair Sonia Tzabery (954-610-3669, [email protected]) with the number of ~7 pound bags your Unit collected.

If your unit has SFF bags leftover, you can turn them in at one of the district collection sites, bring them to Round Table, or you can hold onto them until next year. Note that there is not a specific date listed on the bags, so they can be used in future years!

Thank you in advance to those who have volunteered to help out at the collection sites. We could still use a few more volunteers! If you can help, reach out to one of the site coordinators above. Unit representatives are requested to stick around to help when you drop your collected items.

Additionally, we will need volunteers from each of the areas to act as runners to pick up bags that were not collected.  (This typically happens because they were not set out in time.)  We will reach out to each of you individually should that be needed.  Please have at least one runner identified. Those bags may be take to Second Harvest or any food pantry you prefer.

Lastly, be sure to log your Unit’s service hours in Scoutbook Internet Advancement. Step-by-step instructions provided further down in this newsletter.

Thank you for everything you do!  Together we will make a real difference.

How to Report Service Hours

BSA Units from all programs are requested to record service hours in Scoutbook. This can be done by the Key 3 (CM, CC, COR), Advancement Chair, or someone officially designated as a Key 3 delegate in My.Scouting.org via Organization Manager. Only these positions have access to the Internet Advancement system in which the service hours are to be logged.

Sign-in to Scoutbook, https://scoutbook.scouting.org/
Select ‘Internet Advancement’ from the menu. (Note: Only certain positions have access to the Internet Advancement system. If you don’t see ‘Internet Advancement’ you may not have access. See explanation above.)
Select all scouts who have completed a given service activity (checkmark on left of name)
Click ‘Record Progress’ (located on gray bar) and then ‘Service hours’
Identify the date of the service project on the calendar, then click ‘Create New Activity.’
Complete the fields for project information, location, and details.
Indicate amount of participation hours using the ‘basic’ if everyone did the same number of hours. (Basic is usually good enough for cub scouts.)

Scouts identified in step 3 are included already.
Estimate number of non-registered participants (siblings and parents) in the fields that request that information.
To include registered leaders, click on ‘Add Person’ in the top right of this page and select the registered leaders’ names from the list.

Click ‘Record and Finish.’

(They are NOT responsible for planning the event.) There are full-day online trainings being hosted by other councils on November 15th and December 13th.

To learn more about this role and the upcoming trainings, please contact our district chair Kathy Vickroy at 412-758-9636 or [email protected].

Narcoossee District Roundtable
Next Roundtable: Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 7:00pm

We would like to invite you to the Narcoossee District Roundtable, which is typically be held on the third Thursday of every month at Center Point Community Church (9580 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825). Doors open for gathering at 6:30pm, and opening flag is at 7pm. Roundtable is a great way for Scout leaders to share ideas, network and get information about our Council and District. Ideally, every unit should try to have at least one leader attend every month so that you can take what you learn to your Units!

This month’s November Roundtable will be held on Thursday, 11/20/25. Program breakout groups will be offered for Cub Scout leaders and Scouts BSA/Venturing/Sea Scout leaders.

If you have any announcements or messages you would like to present or convey at Roundtable, please contact Ruth Currey at [email protected].

Narcoossee District Cub Family Campout

The Narcoossee District Cub Family Campout and Pioneer Games will be held at Moss Park the weekend of November 14-16.

This camping event for cub scouts and their families will be a grand celebration of our founding families, and a great way to celebrate being thankful with our Cub Scout community. There will be settler and pioneer themed games, a dance party, crafts, thanksgiving meal and sides contest, and so much more.

This district event is covered (paid for) through the Council Program Fee that is paid with membership renewal, so all scouts and their families participate with no additional cost.

Narcoossee District Fall Camporee

The Narcoossee District invites all troops, crews, and ships to a top-secret mission — CODENAME: CAMPOREE! Hosted by Troop 202, this elite Secret Agent Training Academy is packed with action, adventure, and high-stakes challenges, including obstacle course, codebreaking, laser maze, and so much more — all in one epic weekend. Fully included in your council program fees, this covert operation runs December 5–7 at Moss Park. Units will provide own meals.

Registration: https://scoutingevent.com/083-CodenameCamporee

If registration reaches capacity, please register on the waitlist and let Troop 202 Scoutmaster (and event lead) Dave Chubb know via email  [email protected]. We know that there are currently some duplicate registrations, so there is more capacity than the registration system indicates. We can also explore increasing capacity if there is interest.

Advancement Reminders for Life Scouts

Stan Richards, Dan Morrison, and Theresa Martinez are leading the Narcoossee District Eagle Advancement Team. You can submit proposals and general Eagle advancement inquiries to [email protected].

Please note the following information for Life scouts working on their Eagle Rank:

1. The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook was last updated in February 2023. Please make sure you are using the 2023A version when you submit your workbook for district review. The 2023A version of the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook PDF can be downloaded from the National website at:
https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/eagle-scout-workbook/

2. Within the Project Proposal, the District Information requested on Page B should be entered as: Narcoossee Eagle Chair; (407) 889-4403; 1951 S Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL 32703; [email protected]

3. Life scouts who are ready for their Eagle Project Workbook review and District approvals have the option of personally meeting with a District Advancement team member by appointment. The Life Scout can still opt to submit and receive feedback electronically, if preferred. But in some cases, a short in-person meeting will still be needed for signatures. Electronic proposal submissions should be sent to [email protected]

4. Dr. Phillips Charities has established a matching grant fund at the Central Florida Council to which Eagle Scout candidates may apply for partial assistance to fund their Eagle Scout Service project. Only projects located in Orange, Osceola & Seminole counties will be considered for approval. For more information and application: https://www.cflscouting.org/dr-phillips-charities-eagle-service-project-grant-application/

5. The Council has a new online tool for Eagle Rank Applications, which eliminates the need to mail paperwork until after the BOR is completed and provides support for completing the application and real-time tracking of status.  The tool and instructions for use are available at http://eagleapp.cflscouting.org/

6. To schedule an Eagle Board of Review (EBOR) with the district, a unit representative or the Eagle Candidate should send a request to the district advancement team at [email protected]. The request should identify possible available dates for the EBOR, and if known, provide a location and preferred time. A Scout may make this request, but must have coordinated with and cc their Unit Advancement Chair when doing so. When requesting, please allow for enough time to obtain reference letters, and provide multiple dates to aid in ease of scheduling.

Merit Badge Counselor Memo

Michelle Adamick is the Narcoossee District Merit Badge/Nova/SuperNova Coordinator. All requests to become a Merit Badge Counselor or Nova/SuperNova mentor should be submitted to Michelle at [email protected]

If you are unsure of the status of your application to become a Merit Badge Counselor or a Nova/SuperNova Mentor, please review the Merit Badge Counselor application tracker  HERE.

As of right now, all applications received by Michelle Adamick (Narcoossee’s Merit Badge Chair) that are in-process are on the linked application tracker spreadsheet. If you do not see your name and have submitted an application, please resend your forms to Michelle via email and she will process them ASAP. On the application tracker, if something is red, then it is missing and needs to be submitted before the application will be processed. And yes, even if you are already a registered adult leader in a unit, if you are not a current MBC, a new adult application is needed as you are applying for a new position (mbc vs adult leader). If you have forms to send, please send to Michelle Adamick at [email protected]. Questions can be sent to the same email, or feel free to call/text Michelle at 972-358-6171.
