Fall Camporee Mission Complete!
Eleven Scouts BSA units braved a wet weather forecast to come together at Moss Park for a weekend of spy-tastic fun at the Narcoossee District Fall Camporee. Patrols used teamwork to tackle spy-themed challenges including traversing a laser maze, locating dead drops, breaking codes, trying to identify a mole, and more. Troop 4246 Nuclear Penguins patrol earned the most points and was recognized with the Top Spycraft Award. All of the troops and patrols exhibited awesome scout spirit, and the adult leaders provided an amazing spread of desserts for the Campwide Dessert Extravaganza! Thank you to Troop 202 for planning and hosting a great Camporee!
Local Sea Scout Ship Strengthens Ties with Coast Guard
Narcoossee District’s Sea Scout Ship 412 now has a formal charter organization relationship with United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 17-11. Through this partnership, Sea Scouts gain access to boating safety education, seamanship training, navigation, leadership development, and mentorship from trained Auxiliarists—while the Auxiliary benefits from increased community outreach, family engagement, and the cultivation of future Coast Guard and Auxiliary leaders.
Many thanks to American Legion Post 412 for igniting the Sea Scout program in our area by founding Ship 412. The Post’s commitment to youth development, patriotism, and service laid the foundation for a thriving unit focused on seamanship, leadership, and character. That initial support not only established the Ship but also paved the way for an expanded vision—one that now includes a formal partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary through the AUXSCOUT Program.

Individual Membership & Unit Renewals
This is the second year the process for individual membership renewals is separated from the process for unit renewal (annual unit recharter). Under the current renewal process, individual youth and adult BSA memberships are set on a 12 month term with renewal each year in the month of initial join. Most legacy scouts and Scouters who have been registered with BSA for more than two years have their BSA membership renewal tied to the calendar year (expiration 12/31). Scouts and Scouters with expired membership must renew their BSA memberships ASAP to continue participation in scouting activities. Unit Key 3 leaders must take action to renew their unit membership charter to continue as a unit of Scouting America.
Youth & Adult Individual Membership Renewals: Unit rosters in My.Scouting.org list the membership expiration date for each youth and adult in the unit. Unit leadership can assist unit youth and adults with knowing WHEN their membership is due for renewal and how to go about renewing their individual memberships. National BSA has created resources with step-by-step instructions for (1) Units renewing their members, (2) Parent renewing their youth’s membership, and (3) Adults renewing their own membership.
Unit Renewals: It is time for Key 3 Leaders of Packs, Troops, Crews, and Ships to complete unit renewals (process formerly called annual recharter). Here are step-by-step instructions provided by Scouting America and also a helpful instructional created by our DE George Gagel that includes some FAQs.

Committee-Commissioner Meeting
Narcoossee District will hold a Combined Meeting of Committee members and Commissioners on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The location of this in-person meeting is SpringHill Suites by Marriot Orlando Lake Nona (Address: 13700 Boggy Creek Rd; Orlando, FL 32824).

Narcoossee District Roundtable
Next Roundtable: Thursday, January 15th @ 7:00pm
All adult leaders and scout parents interested in getting more involved in Scouting are invited to attend the Narcoossee District Roundtable, which is typically be held on the third Thursday of every month at Center Point Community Church (9580 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825). Doors open for gathering at 6:30pm, and opening flag is at 7pm. Roundtable is a great way for Scout leaders to share ideas, network and get information about our Council and District. Ideally, every unit should try to have at least one leader attend every month so that you can take what you learn to your Units!
This month’s January Roundtable will be held on Thursday 1/15/26. Program breakout groups will be offered for Cub Scout leaders and Scouts BSA/Venturing leaders.
If you have any announcements or messages you would like to present or convey at Roundtable, please contact Ruth Currey at [email protected].

TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT
Your Training Update!
Please pass the word to all parents and volunteers that our scouts deserve trained leaders. As unit leaders, imagine a pack, troop, crew, or ship with 100% trained leaders!
Online Training Opportunities. Here is how to get caught up with online training
• Take the online course for your registered position via https://my.scouting.org/. Remember that if you change positions, you need to register for the new role and take the training for that role to be considered “TRAINED.” Visit my.scouting.org for all your online training needs!
• Every leader must be current with the new Safeguarding Youth training or the legacy Youth Protection training. Don’t let it expire!
In-Person Training Opportunities. Trainings offered via online courses are also sometimes offered as in-person trainings. There are other courses (e.g., BALOO, IOLS, etc.) that are ONLY offered in-person. You may attend trainings hosted by Narcoossee District or any of the other Districts in the Central Florida Council. Training opportunities within Central Florida Council available in the next few months are listed below. Visit the Council Training Calendar to see all the training opportunities available within our Council. When you visit the calendar website, click ‘Apply Filter’ and check the box for ‘Training’.

Advancement Reminders for Life Scouts
Dan Morrison and Theresa Martinez are leading the Narcoossee District Eagle Advancement Team. You can submit proposals and general Eagle advancement inquiries to [email protected].
Please note the following information for Life scouts working on their Eagle Rank:
1. The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook was last updated in February 2023. Please make sure you are using the 2023A version when you submit your workbook for district review. The 2023A version of the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook PDF can be downloaded from the National website at:
https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/eagle-scout-workbook/
2. Within the Project Proposal, the District Information requested on Page B should be entered as: Narcoossee Eagle Chair; (407) 889-4403; 1951 S Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL 32703; [email protected]
3. Life scouts who are ready for their Eagle Project Workbook review and District approvals have the option of personally meeting with a District Advancement team member by appointment. The Life Scout can still opt to submit and receive feedback electronically, if preferred. But in some cases, a short in-person meeting will still be needed for signatures. Electronic proposal submissions should be sent to [email protected]
4. Dr. Phillips Charities has established a matching grant fund at the Central Florida Council to which Eagle Scout candidates may apply for partial assistance to fund their Eagle Scout Service project. Only projects located in Orange, Osceola & Seminole counties will be considered for approval. For more information and application: https://www.cflscouting.org/dr-phillips-charities-eagle-service-project-grant-application/
5. The Council has a new online tool for Eagle Rank Applications, which eliminates the need to mail paperwork until after the BOR is completed and provides support for completing the application and real-time tracking of status. The tool and instructions for use are available at http://eagleapp.cflscouting.org/
6. To schedule an Eagle Board of Review (EBOR) with the district, a unit representative or the Eagle Candidate should send a request to the district advancement team at [email protected]. The request should identify possible available dates for the EBOR, and if known, provide a location and preferred time. A Scout may make this request, but must have coordinated with and cc their Unit Advancement Chair when doing so. When requesting, please allow for enough time to obtain reference letters, and provide multiple dates to aid in ease of scheduling.
Merit Badge Counselor Memo
Michelle Adamick is the Narcoossee District Merit Badge/Nova/SuperNova Coordinator. Here are links to two flyers designed to help scouts with the merit badge process:
Flyer #1: How to Earn a Merit Badge – Step by Step
For scouts, parents/guardians, scouting leaders, and advancement chairs — this guide walks you through the merit badge process step-by-step so you’ll know exactly what to expect. Click here for downloadable PDF.
Flyer #2: Finding a Merit Badge Counselor Made Easy!
For unit leaders and advancement chairs — this resource explains how to find a merit badge counselor for a Scout when you don’t already have one available. Click here for downloadable PDF.
All requests to become a Merit Badge Counselor or Nova/SuperNova mentor should be submitted to Michelle at [email protected]. If you are unsure of the status of your application to become a Merit Badge Counselor or a Nova/SuperNova Mentor, please review the Merit Badge Counselor application tracker HERE. On the application tracker, if something is red, then it is missing and needs to be submitted before the application will be processed. Note that a common issue is that persons applying to become a MBC do not submit the required new adult application. Even though most MBC have already submitted an adult application to be a leader with a unit, a NEW adult leader application is required to become a MBC because MBC is a new position that is registered as a district (not unit) position. Questions can be sent to Michelle at the email above or call/text Michelle at 972-358-6171.
