BALOO is in the Books!

Kudos to the 27 cub scout parents and leaders who participated in BALOO training hosted by Narcoossee District at Moss Park in September. BALOO stands for ‘Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation.’ In addition to enjoying adult fellowship and yummy food, these adults worked to increase their knowledge of how to help their cub units put on awesome camping events. Big thanks to event chairs Jeremy Jordan and Josh Lueck and their amazing training team for putting on a top notch training. Also, congratulations to Amy Jordan, who received her Wood Badge beads during the event.

Having BALOO-trained leaders in a cub scout pack makes pack campouts run more smoothly, and it is required for a pack to host their own overnight camping events (not district or council events). If you are interested in getting BALOO-trained, check out the upcoming BALOO trainings around the council in the training section of this newsletter.

Good Times at Cub Family Fun Day!

The Narcoossee District Cub Family Fun Day held in September was a fabulous success! Over 400 youth and adults participated in a variety of activities, including archery, BBs, slingshots, raingutter regatta, bottle rockets, and visits from the Orange County Fire Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Thank you so much to Brenda Jimenez and her fearless pirate crew of adult and youth volunteers for putting on this awesome event.

Scouting for Food 2025

We are super excited for the 2025 Scouting for Food (SFF) service project! Thank you to all who have signed up to participate.

Important Dates:
— October Roundtable on 10/16: The SFF bags will be provided to the units. Make sure your unit has someone designated to pick up your unit’s bags at Round Table!
— November 1: Your unit distributes SFF bags in your assigned area.  Also consider asking your chartered organization, local businesses, apartment complexes, etc. if your unit could place a food collection box at their location.
— November 8: Your unit collects SFF donations in your assigned area and delivers/reports donations at a district collection site.

There will be two collection sites managed by Narcoossee District:
–South Narcoossee Collection Site in Osceola County (*NEW this year*): 5750 Nova Rd, Saint Cloud. The site coordinators are Arthur Polnasek 321-689-7447 and Greg Filak 703-963-6394
— North Narcoossee Collection Site: STU Import/Export (* aka The Popcorn Warehouse *) at 5105 Patch Rd., Orlando 32822. The site coordinator is Sonia Tzabery 954-610-3669.

Both Narcoossee District collection sites will need volunteers. Troops are encourage to have 1-2 scouts help with the drop off. If some troop scouts can help from 10:00-1:00 or any time during this time frame, we are happy to sign-off service hours.

It is also an option to take donations to Second Harvest Food Bank, but we will not have district representation there. If you take your donations to Second Harvest, please report your bag count to our district SFF chair, Sonia Tzabery.

Thank you for supporting Scouting for Food and your commitment to serving our youth and community. If you have questions, please contact Narcoossee SFF Chair Sonia Tzabery at [email protected].

Narcoossee District Roundtable
Next Roundtable: Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 7:00pm

We would like to invite you to the Narcoossee District Roundtable, which is typically be held on the third Thursday of every month at Center Point Community Church (9580 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825). Doors open for gathering at 6:30pm, and opening flag is at 7pm. Roundtable is a great way for Scout leaders to share ideas, network and get information about our Council and District. Ideally, every unit should try to have at least one leader attend every month so that you can take what you learn to your Units!

This month’s October Roundtable will be held on Thursday, 10/16/25. This month will feature information on Renewals—a review of steps for scouts, leaders, and units. Additionally, Scouting for Food bags will be available for pickup. AND there will be program breakout groups for Cub Scout leaders and Scouts BSA/Venturing/Sea Scout leaders.

If you have any announcements or messages you would like to present or convey at Roundtable, please contact Ruth Currey at [email protected].

Advancement Reminders for Life Scouts

Stan Richards, Dan Morrison, and Theresa Martinez are leading the Narcoossee District Eagle Advancement Team. You can submit proposals and general Eagle advancement inquiries to [email protected].

Please note the following information for Life scouts working on their Eagle Rank:

1. The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook was last updated in February 2023. Please make sure you are using the 2023A version when you submit your workbook for district review. The 2023A version of the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook PDF can be downloaded from the National website at:
https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/eagle-scout-workbook/

2. Within the Project Proposal, the District Information requested on Page B should be entered as: Narcoossee Eagle Chair; (407) 889-4403; 1951 S Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL 32703; [email protected]

3. Life scouts who are ready for their Eagle Project Workbook review and District approvals have the option of personally meeting with a District Advancement team member by appointment. The Life Scout can still opt to submit and receive feedback electronically, if preferred. But in some cases, a short in-person meeting will still be needed for signatures. Electronic proposal submissions should be sent to [email protected]

4. Dr. Phillips Charities has established a matching grant fund at the Central Florida Council to which Eagle Scout candidates may apply for partial assistance to fund their Eagle Scout Service project. Only projects located in Orange, Osceola & Seminole counties will be considered for approval. For more information and application: https://www.cflscouting.org/dr-phillips-charities-eagle-service-project-grant-application/

5. The Council has a new online tool for Eagle Rank Applications, which eliminates the need to mail paperwork until after the BOR is completed and provides support for completing the application and real-time tracking of status.  The tool and instructions for use are available at http://eagleapp.cflscouting.org/

6. To schedule an Eagle Board of Review (EBOR) with the district, a unit representative or the Eagle Candidate should send a request to the district advancement team at [email protected]. The request should identify possible available dates for the EBOR, and if known, provide a location and preferred time. A Scout may make this request, but must have coordinated with and cc their Unit Advancement Chair when doing so. When requesting, please allow for enough time to obtain reference letters, and provide multiple dates to aid in ease of scheduling.

Merit Badge Counselor Memo

Michelle Adamick is the Narcoossee District Merit Badge/Nova/SuperNova Coordinator. All requests to become a Merit Badge Counselor or Nova/SuperNova mentor should be submitted to Michelle at [email protected]

If you are unsure of the status of your application to become a Merit Badge Counselor or a Nova/SuperNova Mentor, please review the Merit Badge Counselor application tracker  HERE.

As of right now, all applications received by Michelle Adamick (Narcoossee’s Merit Badge Chair) that are in-process are on the linked application tracker spreadsheet. If you do not see your name and have submitted an application, please resend your forms to Michelle via email and she will process them ASAP. On the application tracker, if something is red, then it is missing and needs to be submitted before the application will be processed. And yes, even if you are already a registered adult leader in a unit, if you are not a current MBC, a new adult application is needed as you are applying for a new position (mbc vs adult leader). If you have forms to send, please send to Michelle Adamick at [email protected]. Questions can be sent to the same email, or feel free to call/text Michelle at 972-358-6171.

Popcorn Fundraiser 2025

Amazing job by all of our popcorn sellers and popcorn kernels! Narcoossee District is at $121,114 across 24 units!  We still have another month left, so keep up the great work!

Kernels, don’t forget…if you need more popcorn you have 2 options:

Reply to any of Jillian’s popcorn emails to see if it is possible to do some local trading, as some units are winding down and don’t want to have leftover product (you can transfer items vs cases)
Brian Gorman has product available at the Council office for Thursday pick up. Reach out to Brian directly at [email protected]

For all popcorn-related questions, contact our Narcoossee District Popcorn Kernel Jillian Davis [email protected] or one of our District Executives, Haley Helton [email protected] or George Gagel [email protected]. Look for popcorn updates from Jillian on the Narcoossee District Facebook Group.🍿
