New Colonial District Advancement Chair

Jeff Broomell, after many years of excellent service to our district, has been promoted to a council position. Stan Richards has taken his place as our new Colonial District Advancement Chair starting January 1, 2023. Jeff and Stan have been working together to restructure the District Advancement process. This is on track to roll out in mid-January. The two major changes being made are as follows:

1. The Eagle Project Workbook review process and District approvals will have the option of personally meeting with a District Advancement team member by appointment. As in the past, the Life Scout may decide to do this process electronically or in person.

 2. Eagle Boards of Review will have an appointment system for the date and time. And they will all be held at the same location. Troops are encouraged to send their own representatives for their EBOR. If the Troop is not able to provide representatives, district representatives can be available.

It is our goal to make this process more personal and streamlined for all Troops no matter their size or location. We hope these two changes will make it far easier for Life Scouts to achieve the goal of Eagle Scout. We ask all Scout Leaders to positively support these changes to the District Advancement process. We understand there may be special cases. It is our intention to work on these rare circumstances on a case-by-case basis. We hope this streamlined process makes it easier and more efficient for everyone involved. Thank you!

Calling All Merit Badge Counselors!

The University of Scouting (UoS) event team is seeking Adult Merit Badge Counselors to volunteer an hour or two of their time at UoS on 1/28/2023 to sit in the Merit Badge Lounge and help youth with completing merit badge partials. The goal will be to have a scout come to the Merit Badge Lounge area with blue card and all materials ready to be signed off and go over with a counselor.

Scouts sometimes do not have the resources to finish their partials and we want to provide this new opportunity to see if this helps them.

If you are an Adult Merit Badge Counselor and can assist for an hour or two at UoS, please contact Michael Hockman [email protected] or text 407-920-1884. Send a list of the merit badges you can assist with and the time slot you can volunteer. We will then compile the information from our Merit Badge Counselor team and send to all participants so scouts will know what we are offering.

Colonial District Roundtable
Next Roundtable: Thursday January 19, 2023 at 7pm

We would like to invite you to the Colonial District Roundtable, which is typically held on the 3rd Thursday of every month at Centre Point Community Church (9580 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825). Doors open for gathering at 6:30pm, and opening flag is at 7pm. Roundtable is a great way for Scout leaders to share ideas, network and get information about our Council and District. Ideally, every unit in our Council should try to have at least one leader attend every month so that you can take what you learn to your Units!

At this month’s January Roundtable on 1/19/23, we will share tips and tricks for scouting events on the horizon. Come early to enjoy dinner from the OA Grill—see details in next announcement.

This month’s program breakout groups will feature the following topics. Please bring your ideas and questions!

Cub Scout Program Breakout: Camp Cards, Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold, Rank Advancement/Crossover, Spring Break fun activities or trips
Scouts BSA/Venturing Program Breakout: OA Ordeal, Crossovers, Spring Break trips, Spring Camporee, and Summer camp plans

Looking ahead to next month…the February Roundtable meeting will be 2/16/23. Mark your calendar!

Thank you all for making our Colonial District Roundtable the most attended Roundtable in the Council. Don’t forget bring a friend! If you have any announcements or messages you would like to present or convey please contact   Mike Hockman, Roundtable Chair, [email protected]
